Marine Weather Privacy Policy

CurrentBlack LLC (“CurrentBlack”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) operates Marine Weather, an iOS app that shows marine weather, buoy observations, forecasts, alerts, and tide information from public data sources. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use Marine Weather, contact us, or interact with related support pages.

Marine Weather is designed to work without an account, without advertising, and without selling personal information. The app stores your saved stations, saved spots, and preferences on your device. We do not operate a cloud account system for Marine Weather at this time.

Marine Weather is not an official NOAA, National Weather Service, NDBC, CO-OPS, or Apple product. Weather, ocean, and tide data can be delayed, incomplete, unavailable, or inaccurate. Always use official sources and your own judgment for safety-critical decisions on the water.

Information Stored on Your Device

• Favorite buoy stations, coastal stations, tide stations, and saved spots.
• Display preferences, such as measurement units and app settings.
• Recently used map position or similar local state used to make the app open in a useful place.

This information is stored locally on your device using Apple-provided storage. It is not sent to a CurrentBlack account server. You can remove it by deleting favorites in the app, changing settings, or deleting the app from your device.

Information You Provide to Us

• If you contact support, we may receive your email address, message, screenshots, device/app details you choose to include, and any other information you send.
• If you request help with a specific location or station, we may process the station ID, place name, coordinates, or screenshots you provide so we can investigate the issue.

Information Automatically Processed by the App

• The app may process your approximate or precise location on-device when you grant location permission.
• The app may send station IDs, coordinates, map searches, or place searches to Apple or public weather data providers as needed to show maps, forecasts, alerts, buoy observations, and tide predictions.
• We may receive limited technical information if Apple provides crash reports, diagnostics, or App Store analytics to developers, depending on your Apple device settings.

Marine Weather requests location permission only to center the map near you, sort nearby stations, search nearby marine data, and request weather forecasts for relevant coordinates. You can use the app without granting location permission by panning the map or searching for a place.

• We do not use your location for advertising.
• We do not sell your location.
• We do not maintain a CurrentBlack location-history database for Marine Weather.
• You can change or revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings.

Marine Weather depends on third-party platforms and public data services to function. When your device requests maps, forecasts, observations, alerts, tides, or place-search results, those providers may receive information such as your IP address, device request details, station IDs, search terms, or coordinates. Their handling of that information is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

Apple Services

• Apple Maps, MapKit, Core Location, and related Apple services may be used for maps, place search, geocoding, location permission, crash reports, diagnostics, App Store analytics, and app distribution.
• Apple may process information according to Apple’s privacy policy and platform terms.

Public Marine and Weather Data Sources

• NOAA National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) for buoy and coastal station observations.
• National Weather Service / api.weather.gov for forecasts, forecast grids, watches, warnings, and advisories.
• NOAA CO-OPS for tide stations and tide predictions.

These services are accessed to provide requested app functionality. We do not control their availability, accuracy, retention practices, or security practices.

• Provide app features, including maps, station lists, forecasts, alerts, tide predictions, favorites, and saved spots.
• Remember local preferences and local app state on your device.
• Respond to support requests and troubleshoot reported problems.
• Improve reliability, safety messaging, and user experience using aggregated or diagnostic information where available.
• Protect the app, users, and CurrentBlack from abuse, fraud, security issues, or legal claims.
• Comply with legal obligations, App Store requirements, and lawful requests.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Marine Weather does not include third-party advertising SDKs.

We may share information only in the following limited situations:

• Service providers: vendors that help us operate email, hosting, support, security, diagnostics, or similar business functions, subject to appropriate obligations.
• Public data and platform providers: Apple, NOAA, NWS, NDBC, CO-OPS, and related infrastructure providers when your device requests their services through the app.
• Legal and safety reasons: when we believe disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, security, users, the public, or CurrentBlack.
• Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to continued protection consistent with this policy.

• Marine Weather does not require an account.
• Marine Weather does not show ads.
• Marine Weather does not sell personal information.
• Marine Weather does not use data-broker or ad-tracking SDKs.
• If paid features, subscriptions, or cloud features are added in the future, this policy will be updated before those features are made available.

• Favorites, saved spots, preferences, and map state remain on your device until you delete them, reset settings, or delete the app.
• Support emails and related communications may be retained as long as reasonably necessary for support, legal, security, and business record purposes.
• Apple diagnostics, crash reports, and App Store analytics are retained according to Apple’s tools and policies.
• Third-party public data providers may retain request logs according to their own policies.

To delete local app data, remove favorites or delete Marine Weather from your device. To request deletion of information you sent directly to CurrentBlack, contact us at support@currentblack.com.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information we handle. The app uses Apple platform security and HTTPS/TLS where supported by the data services it contacts. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

CurrentBlack is based in the United States. If you use Marine Weather from outside the United States, information you provide to us or that is processed by service providers may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries where privacy laws may differ from those in your location.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of certain personal information. You may also have the right to opt out of certain sharing or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

Because Marine Weather does not require an account and stores core app data locally, we may not have a user record about you unless you contact us or Apple provides developer diagnostics. To exercise privacy rights, contact support@currentblack.com. We may need to verify your request before responding.

California residents may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA. We do not sell personal information and do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Marine Weather is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app, data sources, legal requirements, or our practices. We will update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Marine Weather after an updated policy is posted means you accept the updated policy to the extent permitted by law.
